St. Patrick’s Week

14th-18th March, 2016

There is lot’s going on this coming week in Schull.

First off on Monday 14th, there is the Big Spring Clean.  Volunteers are gearing up for the coming season by giving the village a massive clean up.  With the help of the local Fire Brigade they will sweep, brush and scrub the Main Street, Pier Road, Pier and Park.  If you want to join in bring gloves and a broom – we would love to see you.

As you are probably well aware by now, Tuesday 15th March 2016 will be known as Proclamation Day in schools throughout Ireland. Scoil Mhuire NS will be marking this day by commemorating and reflecting upon the events of 1916 through a range of activities. We will begin the day by raising our National Flag at 9.30am and we’d very much like parents and the local community of Schull to be present for the ceremony and the activities that follow. The flag raising will be followed by a reading of the Proclamation and the playing of our National Anthem by our students. We will then move into Fr. Hurley Hall where we will have more music, song, dance and other activities.

Later there will be a 1916 Commemorative Ceremony at the Schull Community College.12842389_1132079096823214_287144205_o

Then the big day – Thursday is St. Patricks Day!

This year’s Parade promises to another great day out. The theme – Heroes & Heroines of our History & Heritage. Entry is free and will be accepted on the day. Get working on your float, costume or carriage as there will be prizes for parade entries not to mention spot prizes for best costume, make-up and head dress among the spectators.

We are delighted to have our new TD Michael Collins as Grand Marshall.

Parade starts at 2pm and the Parish Party in the Hall, with music and refreshments.

If that is all not enough there is a family Treasure Hunt!12823331_1105120022873739_6472134223184696770_o

To finish up the week why book tickets to the “Epic Fairy Tale – Careful What You Wish For“.  A Schull Drama Group production involving a massive cast of 50 young and not young actors, singers, dancers and musicians.  A visual feast of extravagance, colour and excitement.  Performances start at 8pm on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and 3pm on Sunday 20th.  Bookings taken on either 028 28054, 086 202 3288 or julianvanhasselt@eircom.net, bookings are for seat reservations only, payment is on the door.  €10 for adults, children and concessions €5.

During the week take time to wander down to the Pier or SCC campus to watch some world class team racing – the first ever International Schools Team Racing Championships – teams from the USA, the UK and Ireland are all competing, the action takes place in the inner harbour so it will be easy to watch and cheer the young sailors.

As always, there will be Music in Hackett’s – Friday 18th from 9.30 til late Dylan will be playing and then Pa Curren will be at the Hackett’s Sunday Session from 5-8pm.
