The Schull Regatta has it’s roots in Schull history and tradition. It all began in 1884 when sailing yawls raced each other between Schull and Crookhaven and around Schull harbour. It was always very popular,  with visitors coming from all over Cork to take part in this wonderful local festival, riding the tram that ran from Skibbereen and Baltimore down to the Pier. It has remained a wonderfully popular event down through the ages, for locals and visitors alike.

In true West Cork style the 2014 Regatta will be launched on the afternoon of  August 9th just before high tide.  For the first time in many years there will be a Pig and Pole (or greasy pole as some will know it) competition. Followed by street music and prize giving; food, drink and merriment galore, late into the night.

On Sunday morning, there will be a “Blessing of the Boats” in the harbour and a parade in the company of the Ballingeary Pipers.  The weekend festivities will culminate with a firework display lighting up the harbour skyline on Sunday night.
